The Hungarian UV-B monitoring network is operated by the Hungarian Meteorological Service and includes four stations. The Budapest station, with two instruments, is situated at the Budapest/Lorinc meteorological observatory where Dobson ozone measurements are also carried out. The K-Puszta station is located in a plain area at the Global Atmospheric Watch (GAW) WMO station. The Kekesteto station is on the highest peak of Hungary. The Sarmellek station is situated at the side of lake Belaton. This lake is a great summer-time tourism center, so the measurements at this location are of special importance. All stations use Solar Light 501A's. An additional sensor is available which is assigned as a secondary standard.

Quality assurance and control of the network sensors is carried out by traveling of the national standard. Calibration is carried out in 3 of the stations 3-4 times per year with the national broadband reference that is calibrated with a Brewer Spectrophotometer. Calibration on the remaining insstrument is carried out 1-2 times per year using the same system. The broadband located in Budapest is the only instrument to have participated in an intercomparison exercise. To collect data a general purpose data acquisition system is used at each station recording 10 minute averages.
Please contact Zoltan Toth for more information on Hungarian monitoring efforts.
