Malaysia

At least one known UV monitoring instrument exists in Malaysia. A Brewer Mark II spectrophotometer is currently operated by the Malaysian Meteorological Service. Mr. Lim Sze Fook is the contact person for this instrument. The Brewer has been taking both ozone and UV measurements since October of 1992. The main purpose of the ozone measurements is to determine current ozone levels and trends. The data are also reported to the World Ozone and UV Radiation Data Center (WOUDC) to be included in the Global Ozone Observing System data set. They are also planning to use the UV data to perform impact studies. It is their hope to use the data collected in conjunction with data obtained elsewhere in order to promote interest in epidemiological studies in Malaysia. The web link at the bottom of the page describes more about Malaysia's UV monitoring efforts.
