SLOVAKIA

Since August of 1993, regular continuous spectral measurements of solar UV radiation incident on horizontal surface have been performed at the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMI) in Slovakia. Currently one instrument,a Brewer ozone spectrophotometer MKIV (#097) is located at station Poprad-Ganovce (49.03'N, 20.32'E, 706m a.s.l.). It measures total ozone, UVB irradiance, SO2 and NO2 columns. This Brewer is regularly calibrated with external standard lamps and is periodically compared with the IOS traveling standard every two years.
In the same location, a Solar Light M501A is located. It regularly goes through comparison with a Solar Light M501 and is maintained as a secondary standard. Two more instruments are located in Kosice and Bratislava.

All UV measurements contribuite to WMO's GAW network, and to the SHMI's own network. In addition, data from Poprad-Ganovce is submitted regularly to the World Ozone and UV Radiation Data Center (WOUDC). This station is situated in mountainous area near the High Tatras massif. Please contact Miroslav Chmelik for more information on SHMI monitoring.
