Welcome to the Web Page for the World Meteorological Organization's Scientific Steering Committee on UV Radiation. This 9 member committee is working to coordinate UV science around the world. Betsy Weatherhead is in charge of international coordination of UV network activities.

Betsy Weatherhead chairs a group of six UV network managers who are interested in coordinating UV monitoring efforts around the world. The five areas of major work so far have been 1) the collection of a list of interested UV scientists for dissemination of UV news, such as meetings and announcements; 2) the identification and dissemination of information about upcoming UV meetings through these web pages; 3) the identification and dissemination of information about upcoming UV instrument intercomparisons; 4) the establishment of a WMO mentoring program to allow scientists new to the field of UV radiation to be aided by more experienced scientists in the field; and 5) the collection of information about UV measurements being taken around the world. Future work by the international coordination committee include identifying areas of specific interest to UV networks which need further collaboration or improvement.

UV meetings are held frequently around the world. It is often the cross-fertilization of ideas which occur at these meetings that lead to fruitful future research. While some meetings are closed and may be attended by invitation only, most are open to interested scientists. Please click here to find out about future UV Meetings.

During the past decade, intercomparisons of exitisting UV instruments have led to a greater understanding of the instruments and more reliable and intercomparable data. Please click here to find out about future UV Instrument Intercomparisons.
