The overall task of the instrument working group (WG) is to work out recommendations for instrument related activities when performing solar UV measurements. This comprises acitivities to specify, standardize and categorize UV instruments (spectral, narrow band, and broad band) and ancillary measurments. A first recommendation with instrumentation categorization has been nearly finished and will be published soon. The WG is currently working on definitions of the physical quantities related to solar UV me
urements and recommendations for the characterization of UV instruments. At the first SSC meeting in Boulder, USA, in May 1995 it was decided that the WG starts their work on the following issues:
Definition of tasks for UV-instruments and development of a classification of instruments
Definition of specifications for the UV-instruments of each class
Assessment of common calibration methods
Definition of ancillary instruments and their specifications
Definition of instrumental requirements for Quality Assurance and quality control
